At SUNY New Paltz, acceptance into the BFA painting program is coveted. Each semester, a spot only becomes available when another student leaves — sometimes it’s ten, sometimes it’s just one. Once they’re admitted, students are given their own studio space to work in at any time, and they do. Kelly Fay reports on the department that never sleeps.
