    Production of “In the Time of the Butterflies”

    The SUNY New Paltz Department of Theatre Arts will showcase “In the Time of the Butterflies,” a play directed by Estefania Fadu based on the bestselling novel by Julia Álvarez. The play will run on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Oct. 3 to 6 and Oct. 17 to 20 in Parker Theatre. Tickets will be available for purchase online starting Sept. 23.     White Supremacy, Racism, and the Appropriation of Ancient History

    The SUNY New Paltz history department, and co-sponsors ancient world studies program and the Campus Auxiliary Services will present “White Supremacy, Racism, and the Appropriation of Ancient History” on Monday, Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in room 181 of Science Hall. Dr. Curtis Dozier, assistant professor of Greek and Roman Studies from Vassar College, will discuss the ways modern hate groups have misappropriated Greco-Roman culture and history in order to advance their agendas of hate.     On Tuesday, Oct. 22, climate scientist and Assistant Professor of environmental studies at New York University, Sonali McDermid, will give a lecture highlighting how agricultural land management can disrupt regional climates and environments. The event is open and free to the public, and will begin at 6 p.m. in Lecture Center 102. The lecture is sponsored by the political science department, Environmental Geochemical Science, Environmental Taskforce and United Nations Association Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter.     Louis and Mildred Resnick Institute Lecture Series “Jewish Communities and the Uneasy Future”

    Carolyn Dean, Professor of History at Yale University, will present the sixth and final lecture in the Louis and Mildred Resnick Institute Lecture Series, “Jewish Communities and the Uneasy Future” on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Center Room 104. The lecture topic will cover the cultural impact of genocide in relation to war and imperial conquest. Dean is the author of five other books focusing on the historical and cultural representation of victims. Her most recently published piece was “Aversion and Erasure: The Fate of the Victim after the Holocaust and The Fragility of Empathy after the Holocaust.” The lecture is free and open to the public.     The SUNY New Paltz Biology Department welcomes all students to the campus greenhouse outside the Coykendall Science Building every Thursday beginning Oct. 10. Students can attend between 1-4 p.m. until Thursday, Dec. 5. The event is open to the public.     Free Narcan Training

    On Thursday, Oct. 24 and Nov. 21, the SUNY New Paltz University Police Department is hosting a free Narcan training. Participants will receive a free Narcan kit and learn how to administer Narcan to reduce the risk of an opiate/heroin overdose, as well as learn rescue breathing and tips on overdose prevention.     Volunteer Day for The Phillies Bridge Farm Project

    The Phillies Bridge Farm Project will host a volunteer day on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help them build their high tunnel  at 45 Phillies Bridge Rd. The event is free and open to the public. You can register by emailing your name and phone number to info@philliesbridge.org. In case of rainy weather, the project will be postponed to Oct. 27.
