“I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing.” – Thomas Jefferson, 1786

Welcome to The Little Rebellion! We are a fully student-produced publication of the Digital Media and Journalism department at The State University of New York at New Paltz. The Little Rebellion covers everything from entertainment and sports to local breaking news and politics, focusing highly on multimedia storytelling techniques. We strive to bring you the most accurate, balanced, fair and relevant coverage in the local area and pride ourselves in maintaining journalistic standards rooted in tradition.

While The Little Rebellion staff members produce many stories for the publication, a majority of its content comes from up-and-coming journalists, videographers and media professionals studying at SUNY New Paltz. If you have produced a story for a class or have a favorite piece that you would like to have featured on, please feel free to submit it to our publication.

Please address any questions to The Little Rebellion’s executive editor Nancy Meyer Heiz at

Looking to get published? Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • We accept news and sports submissions, features, opinion, arts and entertainment and literary journalism (print, audio, video and photography)

  • All submissions are subject to editing by The Little Rebellion staff for copy, content, accuracy and AP style.

  • We ask that contributors to the publication provide links to their professional social media accounts, as well as a brief, two-sentence bio explaining their major, year and a fun fact about them. This information will be included on the page your article is published on.

  • Please provide your SUNY New Paltz e-mail address for publication.

  • Works published on The Little Rebellion cannot be published elsewhere without permission. Previously published works will not be accepted without express permission from the entity that first published it.
