New Paltz Women’s Rugby Holds Carnival to Raise Money for Charity

The New Paltz Women’s Rugby Football Club (NPWRFC) hosted a mini indoor carnival on Tuesday, March 3, to raise money for the Grace Smith House in Poughkeepsie, New York.  The Grace Smith House is a not-for-profit agency that provides both residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their children.

Third-year students Michelle Shalmiyev and Nicole Pagano, as well as second-year student Daniela Potes and first-year student Madison LaLumia played a big part in organizing the event.

The carnival involved games such as ring-toss, a push-up contest, a bean-bag toss, and body-art provided by the Henna club. There was a raffle sponsored by local businesses, including P&Gs, Manny’s Art Supplies, Groovy Blueberry, Shea O’Brien’s, McGillicuddy’s, Earthgoods health food store, Barner Books and Moxie Cupcake & Expresso Bar.

Raffle tickets were sold for $1 each, and game tickets sold for 50 cents each. Game winners won a raffle ticket. The carnival was a success, raising $326 for charity.
