From One Home to the Next (A Photo Essay on Student Housing Situations)

College students are faced with different choices everyday and when it comes to housing, it’s no different. The pros and cons of staying on campus versus moving elsewhere can create a dilemma for many students.

Staying on campus has its benefits: access to food, fully furnished rooms, electricity and Wi-Fi, laundry and more. RA’s and RD’s help monitor students’ campus lives to help them have the best experience. Some see this as helpful, while others find RA and RD work to be bothersome and invasive.

Moving off campus takes away some of the on-campus perks and puts responsibility on the student to take care of things like bills, laundry and food shopping. The benefits to being off campus are the space and privacy that become a little harder to get when living in a dorm with a roommate.

Each student has a preference to his or her living situation. No matter where he or she decides to live, the choice will have physical, mental and social impacts. This photo essay highlights these impacts and gives perspective to individual living situations of students at SUNY New Paltz.
