Students March Around Campus to Bring Attention Trayvon Martin’s ‘Injustice’

SUNY New Paltz seniors, Jonathan Espinosa and Jada Young, held a vigil for the one year anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26. Several students gathered outside the Student Union Building and lit candles while they shared stories related to discrimination and injustice. Young performed an African ritual called libation in remembrance of Martin and others who passed due to injustice. Urban Lyrics members, Tony Adegunle and Samika Jeffrey, also performed some of their spoken word pieces. Afterwards, attendees marched through campus chanting “Trayvon Martin” and “No Peace, No Justice” to spread awareness for those who could not attend the event. The march ended outside of the Atrium with a moment of silence for Martin.
