Women’s Volleyball Senior Night

The State University of New York at New Paltz women’s volleyball team (12-7) held Senior Night festivities on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and bested Williams College (11-6), 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-15, 25-19), in non-conference action at the Hawk Center, according to nphawks.com.

Before the match, the Hawks honored their three fourth-year students: Melinda DiGiovanna, Kelsey Garmendia and Tara Annunziata.

First set action saw New Paltz trail by two before making it 13-9, and going on to win the frame.

The second set had 16 tie scores, and six lead changes. With the frame tied at 22, Williams rattled off consecutive points for the win.

New Paltz was superior in the third, and won with a balanced attack and high percentage shots.

Back-to-back kills by fourth-year outside hitter Melinda DiGiovanna and third-year middle hitter Dana Vosilla  in the third helped the Hawks secure a dominating fourth, according to the school’s athletic website. DiGiovanna and Vosilla leading the charge with 17 and 12 kills, respectively. Five Hawks had double-digit dig totals-second-year libero Carrie Hack had 17, fourth-year setter Kelsey Garmendia had 15, second-year setter Marissa King had 12, and first-year libero Katy Herbst had 10. King also handed out a match-high 45 assists.

For Williams College , Raea Rasmussen had a team-high 10 kills, and Amanda Schott distributed 29 assists, according to the site. Claire Miller and Aly McKinnon had 17 and 11 digs, respectively, while Haley Eagon boasted one block solo and one block assist.
